Donald and his nephews are litterbugs: they drop garbage everywhere they go - even when they are out for a drive in Donald's car - until they are stopped by a policeman who makes them pick up everything they have dropped.
J.J. Fate again shows us how accidents aren't his fault, but instead are the result of carelessness. Donald is Mr. Careful at home, but at work, he starts right off by falling down the stairs. He has run-ins with a punch press, flammable paint, a conveyor belt, loose clothing, a monkey wrench, and other problems.
It's a peaceful day in a local city when suddenly, duck J.J. Fate appears to lecture us on how "fate" isn't to blame for accidents, people are! He uses Donald Duck as an example. Donald is extremely accident prone. He lights his pipe in a room with a gas leak, slips on a throw rug while carrying a fish bowl, overloads electrical outlets, and continually falls down the stairs. Finally, Donald has had enough and fixes his house guaranteeing no more accidents. That's good for Donald but the rest of the accident prone city still has to learn "not to blame fate for your carelessness".
Popeye has just finished his house when a band of termites attacks.
In Judge Wimpy's courtroom, Bluto accuses Popeye of assault and battery; he claims to have been attacked by him on several occasions, without provocation. Popeye then tells his side.
Popeye and Olive are driving through hillbilly country; a very large woman hillbilly is in search of a man, and grabs Popeye. And when Popeye's spinach falls, it's up to Olive to save the day.
Olive's ranch needs a helper, and the boys just happen to be passing by. Bluto's convinced he's better, but Popeye wins at all of Olive's tests: riding a bronco and branding. As Popeye wins the job, Bluto starts a stampede and a fire simultaneously. With some spinach help, Popeye gets Bluto out of the way, douses the fire, and saves Olive from the stampede.
Olive joins the police force. Over-protective Popeye follows her around, "rescuing" her but she's fully capable of handling herself. Can't quite say the same for Popeye.
It's Christmas Eve. Popeye's nephews are staying over with Olive, and Popeye is there helping decorate. Bluto disguises himself as Santa and horns in on Olive.
Popeye arrives in a suit of armor to take Olive for her first driving lesson. Between her literal-mindedness ("choke the engine"), inexperience, an inattentiveness, she has several accidents, culminating in a showdown with a locomotive.
Popeye's nephews try to sneak a birthday present for their Uncle Popeye into his house.
Popeye and Bluto both show up to take Olive to the beach. Olive agrees, but only on the condition they promise to stop fighting...
